He was born in Illinois on September 23, 1927 to parents, William and Emily Thompson.
As a young boy, his family migrated to Ft. Worth, Texas. Thompson served in the Navy and Air Force during World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He retired from the military in 1966 to pursue a career in Radio, Television and Public Relations.
During the early 1970's, Thompson served as a City Commissioner and Mayor of the city of Harlingen, Texas. From 1976 to 1982 he was Executive Director of the South Padre Island Tourist Bureau. From 1982 until 1988 he served as Public Information manager for the Lower Colorado River Authority.
He owned his own resum company and was an announcer at KDRY radio.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lange Thompson, Gordon Thompson and Willard Thompson.
Survivors include the love of his life, Patricia J. Thompson; brothers, Kenneth L. Thompson and Robert "Scottie" Freebairn; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
