Raymond Acosta Jr. Eulogy - 2022  INTRO: Everyone has their own interpretation of who Raymond was and what he meant to everyone. This is my perspective of what he meant to me as his little Brother.   If someone asked me to describe My Brother, Raymond, in one word, it would be, “DREAMER”. Raymond was a dreamer in every sense of the word. As far back as I can remember, Raymond always had a dream. More importantly, Raymond shared his dream with whoever was willing to listen. He may not have known, but every time he shared a dream and if I was nearby, I was listening. Raymond was also a Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, and Patriarch of the Acosta Family. As a result, I’m sure I’m not the only one that had the pleasure of listening to his dreams. Personally, Raymond opened my eyes to a better life.   For example, when he entered high school, Raymond joined JROTC. He enjoyed the program so much that it didn’t take much convincing to get my Brother Tury and me to also join when we entered high school. He tried out for exhibition drill and was a natural. He also joined the Orienteering team and always placed in the top 3, during Orienteering meets. He was recognized as one of the fastest members of the Orienteering Team. I heard all the hype about how the 4th Battalion JROTC programs were second to none. I never considered myself to be competitive but Raymond inspired me to become very competitive.   Not surprisingly, Raymond joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduating high school. Again, he jumped in with both feet and shared his knowledge about very specific benefits offered by the USAF. Needless to say, Tury joined after graduating high school and I followed suit. One particular area that Raymond spoke often about was the Community College of the United States Air Force and how we could earn college credit for our training. He also encouraged us to take advantage of CLEP, and DANTES Tests in order to earn more credits for knowledge we already have, making it possible to earn a degree in a short duration. I earned 2 degrees through the Community College of the Air Force and thank Raymond for inspiring me.   As the years passed, Raymond shared new dreams about home ownership. He purchased his first house but still wasn’t satisfied with traditional home ownership. He had a dream to build his own home. Raymond was a very gifted artist and so he possessed a vision of his dream home and was able to share a sketch of what it looked like. Today, I own my second home and I attribute it to Raymond’s desire to chase the American dream.   As a few more years passed, Raymond had a dream about owning a restaurant. Again, he showed me his drawings and once again, he lit a spark in me that would make my dream a reality. Shortly after I retired from the USAF, I opened up the doors to my new store. Raymond was able to visit my store and share in my joy as an entrepreneur. I will always be grateful for his vision.      To say that Raymond was instrumental and influential in my life is an understatement. I was yearning for a role model to look up to and admire. One of his greatest attributes was his work ethic. Not sure where it came from but he always held more than one job. Raymond was the epitome of a person with a strong work ethic. For most of his life, Raymond worked a 40 hour work week at one job while holding down a second job, and at times, a third job. Even when he fell on hard times and didn’t have personal transportation, he still managed to either walk or use public transportation to get to work.      I have been blessed with your presence. I periodically like to say that I’m “Living the Dream”. This is not something that I take lightly because I know today that I truly am living the dream thanks to you.    In closing, you have always been in my heart and will be dearly missed. You were a great big Brother. God bless your soul and may you rest in peace. We love you Raymond with all of our hearts!

Thank you for being a great tio to me and a greater husband to my Tia. It was a blessing to have met you when we did and I cherish every moment we had together. I wish we made more memories before what happened happened, but I don't regret the times and memories we had already made. Love you tio
