
Ray Daniel Hummel passed away March 14, 2007, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born August 14, 1925, in Spring Creek, Virginia, to Jasper and Minnie Hummel. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He graduated from the Commercial Trades Institute in Chicago, Illinois and worked at J.S. Denton & Son as manager of the Venetian blind department until he retired. Ray was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene in Harrisonburg, VA until he and his wife moved to San Antonio, TX, in 2004, to be with their son and his family.
He will always be remembered for the love and generosity he had for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Olin, Carl, Earl and Loy Hummel; sisters, Viola Liskey and Goldy Brogan. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Jean Hummel; son, Gregory Ray Hummel and wife, Pam; granddaughter, Danielle Elisabeth; sister, Meda Hampt; nieces, Brenda Comer, Barbara Plum, Betty Hogan and Wendy Smith; nephew, Irvan Hummel; and sister-in-law, Margaret Plum. The family held a private service in San Antonio, and a memorial ceremony in Virginia will be planned at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Ray's name to the local SPCA animal shelter.
