Raymond Spencer Bennett, Jr.

Raymond was born on February 19, 1934, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Lois Eleanor (Gaines) Bennett and Raymond Spencer Bennett. He married Kaye Allena Parsons of Denver, Colorado on January 25, 1957, and together they had six daughters.

Raymond is preceded in death by his wife Kaye, his oldest daughter Carla Jean Bennett, his granddaughter Lauren Marie Harmon, by his parents, and by his brother and sister, John Henry Bennett, PhD, of Bloomfield, Connecticut, and Joyce Qualls of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Raymond is survived by his daughters Karen Bennett Harmon, Carolyn Bennett Hendricks, MD, Susan Louis Bennett, Kathryn Bennett Allen, and Sharon Ann Bennett, MD, and two sons-in-law, Steven Hendricks and Keith Allen. Raymond is also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher Michael Hendricks, Brittany Kathryn Allen, Leslie Rene Hendricks, Shannon Harmon Gier, Jamie Carla Allen, and Benjamin Keith Allen, and one great grandchild, Alba Lauren Gier, in addition to nieces and nephews.

Raymond graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, and received degrees from Howard University and Howard University Medical School. A pathologist, he served for 23 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Colonel. During his medical training and military service, he and his family lived in many places, including Tokyo, Japan, San Francisco, California, Wiesbaden, Germany, Denver, Colorado, and Andrews AFB in Maryland. Raymond was particularly proud of his service as a flight surgeon in the 1970s. His final Air Force appointment was Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, and he followed his military service with work in private practice.

Raymond loved living in San Antonio and was an active member of St. Philips Episcopal Church. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and a Charter Member of the Gamma Phi Boul of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, whose members include many longtime friends. Raymond was an amateur astronomer, and he enjoyed traveling worldwide. Highlights of his later travels included a trip to South Africa to observe the Transit of Venus, a trip to China, and a trip to Libya to witness a total eclipse of the Sun. Raymond was an avid reader and a great fan of classic Hollywood films.

In his last days, Raymond received extraordinary care from Sage Care Management and the hospice team and staff at The Mission at Blue Skies of Texas. His ashes will be interred at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
