Rebecca "Becky" Alwais was born in San Antonio, TX, on May 4, 1919 and passed away on June 30, 2007. She is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, Melvyn Alwais. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Howard and Myrna Alwais, and Steve and Susan Alwais along with grandchildren: Melissa Alwais, Jerry Alwais, Sarah Alwais, Randy Alwais, Eric Alwais, Debbie Dullye, Gary Barnett, Connie Cauvel, Bruce Barnett, James Clark and Jennifer Clark; twelve great-grandchildren and countless friends.
Becky and Mel Alwais founded the Toy Box in San Antonio and Austin that they owned and operated with their two sons. The stores were recognized as a San Antonio landmark for children of all ages. In addition, Becky was actively involved in the Madame Alexander Doll Club, Agudas Achim Synagogue, Golden Manor Home, Jewish Community Center, Agudas Achim Synagogue Sisterhood, Hadassah and many other worthwhile charities.
