Rebecca (Becky) McAllister Sperber, age 80, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, in San Antonio, TX. With beauty and charm so timeless, few knew her real age, but now her secrets out. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland to Ellen Lewis and William McAllister on October 13, 1941.
Becky McAllister grew up in a big family in Glasgow, where she attended school at St. Cuthberts and St. Augustines High School. As a teenager, she worked for years at a sawmill, doing bookkeeping. When she was twenty, she immigrated to America alone on a work visa. After years working as a nanny and receptionist in New York in the 1960s, she met Matthew Arnold Sperber, with whom she was later married for nineteen years and raised two children. The family moved to San Antonio in 1983, and Becky McAllister Sperber called the city home for the next four decades.
She was a well-known presence at Foleys in North Star Mall in the 1980s and 90s, where she worked in the fine jewelry department, sharing her stories and sparkle, helping people find touchstones for important life moments-thats how she talked about it. Later, Becky found a new focus for her refined taste and gift for adding beauty to peoples lives: real estate. For over twenty years, she was a skilled realtor in San Antonio, working with Bradfield Properties and later Keller Williams Legacy. She loved helping people find the right home and sharing her decorating skills that made houses special. What really stood out was how she cared and thought about people, and the lovely Scottish lilt in her voice when she told stories with a flash in her hazel eyes.
Becky was an avid gardener, and she was nourished by taking care of her flowering yard. Favorite pastimes included going out dancing, exercising with her workout friends, arranging stylish outfits, and sharing long daily calls with her children. She was a deep thinker with a keen insight into human nature and a natural storyteller. A steady kindness steered her ship.
Heres a quote she loved:
"Let us be grateful to people who make us happy;they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."-Marcel Proust
