Ray was born in Manila, Philippines to (Edilberto Laña and Eufemia Lasala on May 21, 1948. He went to school at Holy Angel University. He married Teresita Jurban on May 17, 1981 in Manila, Philippines. He received his ASE certification from San Antonio College. He worked as a mechanic for AAFES and Gunn Chevrolet for 17 years.
Ray may not have been a perfect man, husband, or father, but he provided his children with the best love and care he could. To his children, he was simply Papa, and to his grandchildren, he was Pipa. To his nieces and nephews, he was Uncle Ray, Tito Boying, and Gray Poupon. To his friends, he was Mata and Tatu. He was a man of many names, but regardless of what people called him, he was deeply loved by those who truly knew him.
Fishing was his love language — the way he connected with family and shared his time with those he cared about most. Painting was another passion close to his heart, and he often said that his paintings were the only treasures he could leave behind for his loved ones.
Ray was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was impactful, often laced with humor and a touch of mischief. He was a jokester and a prankster, always finding ways to make people laugh.
Ray may not have lived a flawless life, but he lived it his way, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will be cherished forever.
