On Friday, April 9th 2021, Rene Nieto born February 21st 1968, in Brownsville TX. was called home by our Lord to his final resting place. He resided in San Antonio TX and was 53 years old. Surrounded by his immediate family at his bedside, We said our final goodbyes. Although we deeply mourn his passing his memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Rene was a Father, Husband, Brother, Uncle and most of all an amazing Grandfather. He will truly be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a hard worker that was proud of his accomplishment of becoming a tugboat Pilot. He loved fishing and being out on the water where he found his tugboat family.

Rene never hesitated to help others in need and when it came to his family, there wasn't anything he wouldn't say or do for us all. His ability to make everyone laugh with his humorous sayings definitely made him the life of the party. As we reflect on those memories and gather to pay our last respects to him, these memories are what we will cherish forever.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia Cervantes-Nieto. Two daughters, Ashton Renee Wagner and Alejandra Renee Nieto. Four sisters, Nora Burk, Melissa Nieto, Gina Nieto, and Vanessa Cummings. Son-in-law Ryan Wagner and 3 grandsons Jacobi, Mason and Ryston. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and life long friends.

What I will miss the most about my brother is his daily calls to all of us (Nora, Gina, Nana, Ash, Jandra, Cindy and myself). Whether he was at home or on the boat, Rene made it a point to call over and over again throughout the day until he was able to speak to us to make sure we were all OK. We learned fast to pick up the first call. He would always say, "Good Morning Mel or Sis". He also had no concept of time. If he was up at 7 am, then that is when the calls would start, LOL. We would all joke and say, "Rene is making his rounds early today". And he would always end the call with, "Love ya!" We never realized how much we would miss these calls. We know Rene loved us and he knew we loved him. As you can see, Rene had a beautiful heart and he will live on forever in ours.

When I think of all the time I missed out on making memories with you brother, I am forever grateful for the memories I do have. You were always my shoulder to lean on and always had my best interest at heart. You were an amazing uncle to my Arianna and your spirit will live on in my heart forever. We love you Rene.

Mijo , even though I shared very little of your adulthood. I loved the life I shared with you and your sisters since the time you all were growing up with Ray,Rick and Regina.
Rene, Like Mel,Gina,Nora and Vanessa, have and will always have a very special place in my heart until the Lord calls me.
Rene was always a loving and caring person.Last time I saw Rene he told me not to worry that I would always be his Aunt and he gave me the warmest hug. ( He probably sensed that I felt bad because we didn't see each other much.)
Rene will always be remembered as my loving nephew until we meet again with the Lord.
Tia Irma.

I know Rene's face to face with Jesus now and all the pain is gone but he left a lot of great memories that make me smile and laugh. All of them are from playing with him, my brother Rick, and the guys at Grandpa and Grandma's house in the Bougainvillea Projects and we couldn't have been more than 10 or 11 years old.

There was a long sidewalk in front of Grandma's house where we'd run back and forth. We'd also race to see who was the fastest from here to the the telephone post and back! These races usually happened right as it was turning dark and sometimes into the night. Arguments often ensued. Man, we'd stink like armpits when we got into the house. After our baths, Grandma would let us back out to play a little more only to wash our feet when we came back in before it was time for bed. Rene was always the fastest.

Oh, man.. we used to play baseball in a lot right next to Grandma's. We had one base and had to run past the pitcher, LOL! Rene was always the best hitter and he'd knock it out to the trees where the tarantulas were.

There was a tree on the corner of Grandma and Grandpa's house where Grandpa would sit under and tell us stories. We'd climb that skinny little tree like monkeys. One time, Rene put on a "cape" (one of Grandma's towels) with a safety pin and jumped off like he was Batman or something (sonso!) and he somehow got the safety pin poked through his cheek! He was okay, but he had a habit of hurting himself, like in my next memory that makes me laugh.

Grandma would put us to sleep in the same bed. All of us. One time, Rene was in the middle between me and Rick and Rene put a Q-tip in each of his ears, and in each of his nostrils so he could look like an alien or something. He turned to Rick and crammed one of the Q-tips deep into his ears and turned in a reflex to me and crammed the OTHER Q-tip in his ear! Again, he was okay, but that memory really makes me laugh.

Rene Lived!! ..and now he lives in eternity!
