Richard Lynn Cadenhead, born on January 26, 1947, in Elizabeth, Indiana, beloved and dedicated husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend, passed away on December 19, 2022, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He is now at peace in the arms of his Heavenly Father.
He proudly served his country during the Vietnam war for 22 years until his honorable discharge. He received many medals of honor during his time of service. Richard’s plan was to leave El Paso after retirement and go back home to Indiana, but his plans were changed when he met his “brown eyed girl” who won his heart over and became his wife (Carmie).
His smile was infectious, he loved comedy and often texted jokes with his friends. He had many friends around the world who would reach out to him though Facebook. He enjoyed the art of Gary Larsen, Cartoonist, who drew about the absurdities of life. He would wake up to sing and BLAST his Rock & Roll music. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, going to their soccer and football games, and music concerts.
He had a passion for old cars and built his first “Rat Rod” which he drove around the country photographing “junk cars” that would become beautiful cards and t-shirts sold at stores and art shows. Richard was a member of many car clubs. He and his buddies in El Paso would meet on Saturdays at Frankie’s on Montana to discuss their knowledge and passion of cars with each other. These “buddies” helped sustain this passion for cars and supported him throughout his life.
He was fondly called “Pops" & “Richie” by his family and friends. He will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred Cadenhead; his brothers, Randall, Mike, and George Cadenhead. He is survived by his wife and best friend for 30 years in marriage, Carmen “Carmie” Cadenhead; daughters, Teri Buess (Chris) and Tracy Jones (Kenneth); son, Randall Cadenhead; stepchildren, Ali Hagar (Lily), Yezmin Hagar, and Karim Hagar (Ivonne); 13 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. His dog, Buddy, misses him every day.
Some of the words he lived by included: “Keep it simple, work and pray with love, dream from your heart, share what you have, don't forget to play the music, love deeply, and ALWAYS thank God. His favorite daily prayer, together with Carmen, was the Serenity prayer.
A heartfelt thank you to EVERYONE who has prayed and supported me during this challenging time. An extended thank you to the doctors, nurses, and transporters for their compassionate care of my beloved husband.
Richard was a true companion and loyal friend, who loved unconditionally and will be missed by all who knew him.
A “Celebration of Life” memorial service will be held Friday, February 3, 2023, at 1:30 pm at the Fort Bliss Cemetery, followed by a Reception at the Underwood Golf Course.
