Richard “Dick” Porter Corrigan, a respected attorney, devoted family man, and cherished member of the San Antonio community, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on August 4, 1948, in San Antonio, Texas, to his parents, Robert Napier Corrigan and Barbara Porter Corrigan.
Dick proudly served his country in the US Army reserves, a commitment that spoke to his sense of duty and patriotism. He was a graduate of Alamo Heights High School and completed his education, earning a degree from Southern Methodist University and a JD from St. Mary's University School of Law. Dick then established a successful career as an attorney in San Antonio, where his thoughtful approach to law earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Patrick Corrigan.
Dick was a loving husband to his wife of 53 years, Patricia Hansen Corrigan, and together they built a beautiful family. Their children, Carley Corrigan Bynum and her husband, Zach, Richard Porter Corrigan II and his wife, Katy, and Cassie Corrigan Porterfield and her husband, Marshall, were the center of his world. He instilled in them the values of kindness, integrity, and hard work. Dick's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren: Corrigan Grace, Hutton Howard, Boone Truman, Richard Porter III, Charlotte Werk, Clary Mackoy, Isabelle Kate, Barbara Brown, and Jack Marshall IV, who will carry forward his legacy of love and thoughtfulness. He also shared a bond with his brother, Robert Napier Corrigan II.
Dick's contributions to his community extended beyond his professional life. As a member of the Texas Cavaliers, he engaged in activities that enriched the lives of those around him. His involvement in the organization reflected his commitment to service and his desire to make a positive impact on society. In addition, Dick was a past president of the Order of the Alamo and San Antonio German Club.
Those who knew Dick will remember him as a man of great character. He was thoughtful in his actions, loving in his relationships, and endlessly creative in his pursuits. His sense of humor and kind spirit defined him. We celebrate a life well-lived. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his generous spirit. He has left an indelible mark on this world, and his legacy will endure through the lives of those he loved and the community he served with such distinction.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.” 2 Timothy 4:7
A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Church on May 16, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. allowing his family, friends and colleagues to honor his memory together.
