Richard Eloy Gomez

Richard E. Gomez Sr., 75, passed away on April 28, 2013. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be dearly missed. Richard was born in San Antonio, TX. on April 2, 1938 to Jose M. and Elia M. Gomez. He graduated from Central Catholic High School; and, he attended San Antonio College. He married his wife, Rosalie O. Gomez on Nov. 26, 1960 in St. Paul's Catholic Church. Richard worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 40 years with most of his years in Nimitz substation. He previously was in the navy reserves. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie O. Gomez; son, Richard E. Gomez Jr.; daughter-in-law Cynthia Palacios Gomez both from New Braunfels; daughters, Irma Leticia Gomez and Maria Estela Gomez Hughes; son-in-law Scott Ryan Hughes, each from San Antonio; grandaughters Andrea Rose Gomez Gaytan (husband Luis Gaytan), and Christina Renee Gomez Quan (husband Andy Quan), of San Antonio; Amy Michelle Saenz (husband Tim Saenz), of Austin; Amber Kristen Hughes; Allison Nicole Hughes; and Audrey Leigh Hughes. Also, Richard is survived by grandson Richard Elliott Gomez of New Braunfels, as well as many cousins. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following morning at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 600 Oblate Drive, at 10:00 a.m. with Visitation for one hour prior to Mass.
