Born on July 29, 1940, Richard was the fourth of nine siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis; his sisters, Gloria Hoyt and Cathy Martinez; his three sons; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Richard met the love of his life, Phyllis, in high school, and together they shared a remarkable 65 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering love.
He was a proud and devoted father to his three sons, Rocky, Ryan, and Rodney, and a loving grandfather to Phillip, Jeff, Traci, Taylor, and Becca. In recent years, one of his greatest joys was spending time with his five great-grandchildren—Lilianna, Dean, Jack, Marley, and Joel—who brought him endless happiness.
Richard had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He cherished time spent with his boys, caring for their farm animals, attending sporting, music events, and being outdoors. As his family grew, he found even greater joy in passing down traditions and creating memories with his grandchildren—teaching them how to fish, shoot, play golf, and appreciate the outdoors. Those moments and lessons will be treasured for generations to come.
A devoted Catholic, Richard was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Antonio, where his faith remained an important part of his life.
Richard was admitted to Stone Oak Methodist Hospital, while there shared with his wife and son that he was ready to rest. He passed peacefully later that evening at 7:16 p.m., surrounded by love.
Richard lived a long and meaningful life defined by family, faith, laughter, and quiet strength. He dedicated 21 years of service to the Missouri Department of Transportation in Mound City, Missouri. In 2004, he and Phyllis moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he continued to enjoy the company of family and friends while especially treasuring time with his growing family.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
