It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Richard G. Ramirez, age 72, of San Antonio, Texas, on July 13, 2025.
Born on June 22, 1953, in San Antonio, Richard—affectionately known as Ricky—was the eldest child of Richard R. Ramirez and Alice T. Ramirez. A proud graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, Class of 1971, he went on to attend San Antonio College and built a lifelong career in nursing that spanned over 40 years.
Richard began his professional journey in Labor and Delivery at the Robert B. Green Hospital and continued to serve at several medical institutions across San Antonio. Most recently, he worked at the San Antonio State Hospital. Richard was known for his deep compassion, kindness, and dignity with which he treated every patient. He took immense pride in his work, and his dedication left a lasting impact on both colleagues and those in his care.
Beyond his professional life, Richard was a loving, selfless, and humble man. He gave generously, even in times of personal hardship, and was a friend to all who crossed his path. His warm spirit and joyful presence were especially cherished by his children, grandchildren, siblings, and beloved Uncle Robert. Richard found joy in music, barbecuing, singing, and dancing—always surrounded by family and friends. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard R. Ramirez and Alice T. Ramirez; his grandparents, Gustavo and Elvira Ramirez, and Eliseo and Elena Treviño; his brother-in-law, Joey Gonzales; and several cherished aunts and uncles: Beatrice Treviño, Gloria and Esiquio Hernandez, Esther and Rudy Saenz, Joann and Pete Ramirez, and Eliseo Treviño.
He is survived by his children: Monica R. Voris, Richard Ramirez III (Aubree), and Rafael Ramirez; his siblings: Roland Ramirez, Roxane R. Cruz (Paul), Rosalind R. Gonzales, and Rhonda R. Villalobos (Ceasar); his grandchildren: Maddie G. Ard, Colin M. Voris, Max C. Voris, Ashlyn Mayer Ramirez, and Ryder Cash Ramirez. He is also survived by his Uncle Robert Treviño, his aunts: Bertha Sifuentes, Sylvia Guzman, and Rebecca Muzquiz, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard will be missed beyond measure. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
There will be a Visitation on Friday, August 8th at 10:00 am. Then the Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am in the Mausoleum 2 Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home. There will be a Graveside Service immediately after the Memorial Service at San Fernando Cemetery #2; 746 Castroville Rd.; San Antonio, TX 78237. Reception to be announced later.
