

Richard G. Reiss of San Antonio , Texas passed away peacefully at home, on February 24, 2025, with wife Carol by his side. Richard was born on March 19, 1946 in Moberly, Missouri, to Martha Jean and Richard Reiss, Sr. At three years old, the family moved to San Antonio as Jean‘s health required a warmer climate.
Richard graduated from Alamo Heights High School. Richard then attended North Texas State University, where many of his high school buddies joined him including; Bill Keedy, Bill McCullough, Whit Snell and Preston Timmons. He was a member of Delta Alpha fraternity. Many of his friends at North Texas were in a band ( The Beefeaters ) who played many fraternity parties, Richard graduated from North Texas State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He later completed post graduate business courses at Southwest Texas University.
After college, Richard joined the US Army reserves as a pay disbursement specialist, where he made many lifelong friends. Going to Germany with local San Antonio friends who were in his unit was a special time.
Richard taught business math for 13 years at Kennedy High School, until he became a real estate agent. Richard made a positive impression on many of his students.
Richard and good friend Tom Yokum were fortunate to be season ticket holders for the Spurs basketball games starting in the ABA days. Carol soon became an avid fan as well. Richard was still teaching at Kennedy when he met Carol who was working for a title company.
Richard and Carol were married in 1978. He then became interested in real estate, and started under the mentorship of Estelle Hardy at Hardy and Company Gallery of Homes, Estelle had a big impact on Richard. Richard became friends with another Gallery of Homes owner, Steve Finch. They would spend decades together working on real estate transactions. Also, Richard really enjoyed working with special client, Ramesh Bhaga, and family who became a special part of Richard and Carol’s lives.
Richard then became a commercial real estate broker, starting his own company, Reiss Realty. It was a small operation, but he had an impact on many people with his loyal and honest work ethic, always helping his fellow agents.
Richard and Carol were very lucky to have friends who they traveled with to many wonderful places. Special travel friends were, Tommy and Shellie Yokum, Alan and Janie Peek, Bill and Debbie McCullough, Bill and Sally Keedy, Bill and Debbie Cheatham, Cindy Beard, Debbi Wilson,Mike Wish and Mary Furgason. We all had great trips together whether it was Mexico, New Orleans, London, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Greece, France, Scotland, Ireland, Costa Rica, and Jackson Hole. The pair also took fun trips to Mexico with Carol‘s family, Mat, Yolanda, and Mike Patti.
Richard was an avid golfer and had been playing since high school. He played his entire life up until he became ill. Richard was lucky enough to have played the Old Course at Saint Andrews and Pebble Beach.
Richard's proudest accomplishments were working for himself, opening up his own real estate company, obtaining his CCIM designation , being a mentor to many, marrying Carol and being invited to join the Hipnotics band which included Steve Baskin, Tom McIver, Billy Powers and Mark McMillian. The band played many private parties and had tons of fun, also recording their own CD, writing an original song and winning a song contest. Music was a huge part of Richard and Carol’s life.
Richard was predeceased by his parents and very dear friend Dr. John Thomas Yokum.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Carol Reiss, his brothers in-law Michael Patti, Matthew Patti (Yolanda ), step nephews Daniel Chapa (Michelle ), Jarrod Chapa (Karla) and cousins in Missouri.
Carol would like to thank all the friends and family who were part of Richard’s joyful life. And special thanks to caregivers, Martin Robert, Cindy Hammerling, Sally Renteria, and Vitas Hospice, who were marvelous in their care.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date with a celebration of life to follow.
