Richard Edward Rhodes, Jr.

Richard E. “Rick” Rhodes, Jr., age 77, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at his home in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. He was born to his parents Narcissa (Boots) and Richard E. Rhodes, Sr. Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, Rick later moved to Houston where he spent his formative years. Rick attended Texas Tech University studying mechanical engineering following in the footsteps of this father. When he left Texas Tech, he went into business with his father at the Rhodes Plumbing Co. in Houston. Rick then became a rare, 4th generation Master Plumber. In 1979, while working in San Antonio, he met his wife and true love, Sally, during his late-night visits to Jim’s Restaurant. In 1980, Rick moved permanently to San Antonio where he continued to grow a successful career in mechanical contracting.

In October 1982, Rick found his calling of community service when he joined the Rotary Club of San Antonio - Oak Hills. He spent over 40 years with Rotary serving in many capacities, including president of the club on two occasions, striving to bring education, healthcare and a better quality of life to the poor, underprivileged and suffering around the world. Rick’s passion for service was made clear through his efforts with the Texas Shrimp Fest, funding scholarships for education, and community projects for clean water and other needs in Nueva Rosita, Mexico.

As a man of faith, Rick spent the last several years attending regular Bible studies strengthening his relationship with and bringing him closer to the Lord. Rick and his wife Sally regularly attended Concordia Lutheran Church together.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Sally J. Rhodes; his sons, Robyn Shawn Rhodes, Richard E. Rhodes III, Charles Scott Rhodes; grandchildren, Christian, Lucas, Matthew and Graham; his dog Rocky that he loved dearly; and many other extended family members and good friends.

In his last days, Rick was surrounded and cared for by his wife, children and in-laws with the support of Elara Caring Hospice. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Elara for their exceptional efforts of support during this time.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.

Interment to follow on Monday, October 7th, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH 10 W. Pastor Bill Tucker will officiate.

A reception will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church immediately following the service from 11am to 12pm. Pallbearers will be Robyn Shawn Rhodes, Richard Rhodes III, Charles Scott Rhodes, Frank ‘Buddy’ Rhodes Jr, Rick Tarbell, Jay Haines, John Haines and Roger Haines.
