Richard passed and went to heaven on Sunday, February 9, 2020 to be surrounded with love by his father, Fred Shelton Russell, his mother, Marceline (Vickie) Simpson Russell, brother Fred Shelton Russell, Jr. as well as his many extended family members that he missed and spoke of often.
Richard was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 13, 1958. He graduated from Lee High School and worked for Goodwill Industries and Beto's Alt-Mex restaurant where he was beloved by staff, customers and vendors alike.
Richard lived a full life—loving the people around him, living in the moment, and walking in his Christian values. He had just the right recipe for overcoming adversity through his strong perseverance and determination with a dash of humor and commentary (whether appropriate or not). He had a pure and strong faith; He loved his church, family, football, food (especially eating out) and animals.
Richard is survived by his loving stepmother, Juliet Russell, sister Cheryl Russell Mijangos, husband Albert, his two nieces, Eliana Mijangos-Brown, husband Dexter, Shelton Katalina Mijangos and grandniece Grace Brown (Pootie Pootie). He is also survived by his Aunt Jimmie Russell, stepaunt Maryann Joseph as well as his many cousins whom he cared for deeply.
He will be dearly missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Watershed Church, 9315 Broadway St., San Antonio, Texas 78217, at 10:00 am.
If desired, a memorial contribution may be made to The San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind, Goodwill Industries, Morningside Ministries, Special Olympics, Reaching Maximum Potential or Watershed Church.
