

be with God on Sunday January 26. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Barney, his parents George and Kathryn Barney, his brother, Pete Barney and his sister Kathryn Virginia Sewell.
He is survived by his niece, Virginia Norwood, her husband, Charles of Irving, Texas. He is also survived by close friends: Druana and Mark Childs of Pettus, Texas, and their children, Amy and Colton; Drs. Sasha Vukelja and Larry Anderson of Tyler, Texas, and their daughter, Maxine, who was Bob's goddaughter; Necia and John Harp of San Antonio, and their children, Clint and Jami.
Bob will be missed by so many others whose lives he touched with his kind and generous acts of friendship. Bob was born and raised in Ennis, Texas. He graduated from Ennis High School and the University of Texas in Austin. After graduating, he worked for several newspapers including The Austin Daily Tribune and the Temple Daily Telegram.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Bob worked for Southwestern Bell, Shell Oil, U.S. Veterans Administration, National Cancer Institute, National Institute of Dental Research, San Antonio State Hospital and Academy of Health Sciences at Fort Sam Houston. While working as an editor, Bob wrote and edited several field and technical manuals, audio visual scripts, press releases, medical papers, newspaper and magazine articles. Bob also edited the Army's Nursing Manual. He thoroughly enjoyed writing and contributed numerous articles to historical society publications. Bob also authored a book entitled "The Romantic Story of Dallas." Bob was a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, Sunset Ridge Church of Christ, and San Antonio Lodge No. 1079, AF&AM.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:30 to 8:30 at Porter Loring on McCullough.
