He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa to William & Edna Byers on August 29, 1932. He was a loving husband, grandfather and friend who will be sorely missed by all. He was also an avid golfer,
Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy, his four grandchildren; Chase & Natalie Dickinson and Taylor & Jamie Byers as well as grand-daughters-in-law, Sarah Dickinson and Kayla Byers. He is also survived by daughters-in-law, Cindy Byers & Kathy Byers and his beloved dogs Dudley, Willie and Annie who loved him with all of their little hearts.
Bob received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, in 1959. He accepted a commission into the Army Judge Advocate Corp in February, 1960, and thus began a 20 year career and a wonderful association with good friends and interesting assignments. His stations included the JAG school in Charlottesville, VA, Ft. Lewis, Washington, Munich and Heidelberg, Germany and Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. After retiring from the JAG, he went into private practice for a short time. His most fulfilling “civilian” job was representing abused and neglected children, which he did for years, and found it to be extremely satisfying to help the children.
Bob and Nancy traveled extensively, playing golf all over the United States and Hawaii. It was a wonderful life, both in the military and after retirement.
The Graveside Service will at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter #2. He will receive Full Military Honors.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the San Antonio Animal Defense League on Nacogdoches Rd. in San Antonio, as helping all of God’s creatures, especially dogs, was a passion of his.
