Robert Delgado, age 56, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on August 23, 1960 in McAllen, Texas, to parents, Lorenzo and Maria Delgado. He attended Bible College in Dallas, Texas pursuing his calling in ministry. Robert was in the Professional Employer Services industry for most of his career. He also ventured with his brother Jerry into owning and managing The Taste of Texas B-B-Q-Ville in Waco.
Robert was always passionate about the Lord Jesus Christ ministering to family, friends and strangers. You could not talk to him without God coming into the conversation. His one desire for everyone was for them to come to know the Lord in an intimate, personal relationship. He had a smile that would light up the room and would go out of his way for each person to know that they are special. His infectious personality could change any negative situation, instill hope when it seemed hopeless and uplift you in your darkest hour. He saw the silver-lining in everything. He was an incredibly generous man – giving even when he didn't have anything to give.
Robert was very much a family man who loved get-togethers and BBQs with his parents, his siblings and their families. His relationship with his daughters was unique and as close as a parent can get to his child. His goal was to raise Godly, righteous women. His sacrifice to raise two daughters alone will always be remembered and cherished, and they will pass that love down to their children.
Robert loved music – playing, singing and writing. His passion for music led him to teach himself the guitar and piano. You could often find him writing and recording music. For a time he managed the Paradox Christian rock band as well as participated in various church worship bands. The last few years, he was leading worship at his church with his loving wife, Janie.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors (including collecting rocks) and things about the universe – always seeing God in His creations. Golf and travel were at the top of his list. With his keen sense of style Robert always looked sharp and fashionable, which made him the perfect shopping partner. He was an avid movie-goer, especially when it came to sci-fi, and he would make it a point to devour all the popcorn in the bag before the movie even started (refills always needed). Another love of his was fitness which began in high school with track. It continued in his early adult years in his enjoyment for body building and lasted for all of his days. He was always coming up with ideas for inventions, even as a child. As a young boy, he loved watermelon but would get frustrated with the seeds so he wanted someone to make a seedless one. His desire for knowledge drove him to learn new things always, whether it was new languages, technology or uncovering the mysteries of the Bible.
He was preceded in death by, his father, Lorenzo Delgado; sister-in-law, Janie Delgado; nephew, David Aaron Delgado. Robert is survived by his wife, Janie Renee Delgado; daughter, Johanna Sweeney and husband Gregg; daughter, Lauren Dinsmore and husband Ryan; mother, Maria T.
