Robert Wayne Griffin "Bob" was born November 13, 1923 in Bedford, Indiana. He passed away peacefully on Monday September 5, 2011. After growing up in Oklahoma City and going to The University of Oklahoma, he attended and graduated from Case Western Reserve with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1948. He then was drafted into the Army for the second time. Bob was always proud that he had been drafted twice and was never shot at. Bob and his wife Sara Lou raised three children in San Antonio, where he practiced Internal Medicine. In the 1960's, Bob was one of the founding physicians of the Methodist Hospital, the start of what is now the Medical Center of San Antonio. Bob was appointed Chief of Staff at Methodist Hospital in 1976. He served on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army, was a hardworking member and enjoyed ringing a bell every Christmas. After retirement from private practice, he was the Medical Director at the State Hospital of San Antonio. Bob loved to spend time at his G5 Ranch in Kingsbury. He was an active member of St. Andrews Methodist Church and later, Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. He volunteered with the church bringing communion to patients in hospitals and nursing homes. For the past ten years, Bob's greatest joy was his wife Kathleen. He enjoyed golf, travel, dancing and always sports - participating in and watching all sorts. Bob always loved a laugh. He was preceded in death by Sara Lou Baber Griffin and Nancy Grieder Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Webb Griffin, his children, Lou Griffin, Meg Griffin Conner and her husband Patrick Conner, Matt Griffin , Elizabeth and Stephen Wendel, Margaret and John Kefauver, Katy Pool, and Mardi and Claus Eggers. Bob was a loving grandfather to all of his 13 grandchildren, and found delight in all of his seven great-grandchildren. The family would like to give thanks to all the many friends who have loved and supported Bob over the years. A special thanks to Vangie Rodriguez, Rosa Devers, Dr. Steven Kalter, Dr. David White, Dr. Randy Singleton, Dr. Keith Eyre and Innovative Senior Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of one's choice. After a private burial service, a reception for all of Bob's friends and family will be held at Oak Hills Country Club on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
