Robert S. Kaufman

Robert S. Bob Kaufman, age 86, lifetime resident of San Antonio, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Kaufman; daughter, Karen Kaufman and brother, Richard L. Kaufman. Mr. Kaufman was a life member of Temple Beth El. Bob began his business career with his father-in-law at Trottner Iron and Metal Co. and later joined the family business, Kaufman's Inc. in 1965. The business was founded by his father in 1892 as a dry goods store in downtown San Antonio. Working with his son, the business transitioned to Kaufman Uniform Co., a statewide distributor of public safety apparel. In addition, Bob co-founded with his brother Louis, the Red Wing Shoe Stores in San Antonio. Bob was a member of San Antonio Rotary Club and past President of Jewish Federation of San Antonio. Survivors: son, Rob Kaufman and wife, Emily, of San Antonio, TX; beloved granddaughters Lindsey Kaufman, New York, NY and Carly Kaufman, of Dallas, TX; brother, Louis B. Kaufman, of San Antonio, TX; several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to his caregiver, Virginia Garza, Dr. Michael Lichtenstein, Suzanne Huber and staff at Golden Manor.
