Robert Raymond Mason was the 8th child of Orville and Sylvia Akers Mason. He started his first job at age 9 as a newspaper boy. He then worked at Playland Park. Next he worked at HEB and then at Nowatney Taxidermy. He was a graduate of Brackenridge High School and went to Southern Illinois University while in the Air Force. He then completed his Masters Degree from then Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.
Bob served in the USAF for 22 years. He traveled all over the world. The most exciting time was serving in the Air Commandos out of Hulbert Field, Florida.
He worked for Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services and then he was a Safety and Workers Comp. Manager for the City of Austin. He was awarded Safety Manager of the year for State of Texas. He retired from there.
Bob never saw anything he could not achieve. He just went for it. His joking nature and his always "be happy" attitude was a joy to be around. He was a kind person. He did many good deeds that people never knew about. He was very private about that.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Mason, Orville "Danny" Mason, Herbert W. "Buddy" Mason; sisters, Lillian Mason, Mary Ellen Kitagawa, Carolyn Christensen, Shirley Henry and Barbara Spears, and grandson William R. Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rushelle Kathaleen Courtney Mason; children, Ginger Christie (Robert), Robert Mason Jr. (Sandra) and Kelly Boyd (Thomas); grandchildren, Shawn Mason, Nicol Mason, Allison Krumm (Darrin), Sara Mack (Mark), Emma Boyd; great grandchildren Chloe and Elijah; sister, Mable Jean Mayes; and brother, Kenneth Mason.
