

He served as operations officer on the USS Fletcher during the Korean War. After the war he joined the Naval Reserve. Was commanding officer of destroyer escort crew FLT DIV 8-2D, commanding officer of Naval Reserve Surface Division 8-21L, commanding officer of Naval Reserve Surface Division Research Company, chief of staff Dallas Surface Reserve Group Command.
He was a volunteer on the Navy Retired Activities Board in San Antonio. Mr. McCurley was employed by Texas Instruments from 1956-1991, retired as Engineering Group Supervisor and member Group Technical Staff of the Defense Systems and Electronics Group. He was a member of the Electronics Industries Association, Society of Automotive Engineers, was as advisor to the chief US delegate to the International Electrotechnical Commission on Connectors.
Mr. McCurley served the City of Plano on the Planning and Zoning Commission and on several city, county and school district committees. He also served on the New Braunfels Planning and Zoning Commission, the board of the Comal Power Plant Restoration Project, Inc., and on the advisory board to Brauntex Theater Performing Arts Center Inc. He served as deacon of Walnut Hill Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Farmers Branch and was chairman of Deacons at First Baptist Church Plano, and served as Treasurer of Oakwood Baptist Church of New Braunfels.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Lori Ann McCurley Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dolores Gee McCurley; one daughter, Susan McCurley Anderson and husband, Forrest of Uvalde, Texas; one son-in-law, Gary Allen Burns of Crockett, Texas; and five grandchildren, Forrest Nicole Anderson, Algera Lee Anderson, J. Robert McCurley Burns, John Rocco McCurley Burns, and Emily Caroline Burns.
