Shape is a most unforgettable friend from football days at Tech especially on the road trips we took with the team ..I will always remember him as a happy and humurous teammate..my condolances to all his family..love from his teammate Basilio Kypuros Jr class of 1956

I write these words for your children given you, Shape and I have known each other for well over 50 years. Never in those 50 years did I ever hear Shape utter an angry word or make an unkind remark about anyone. He was the gentle person one encounters but a few in life. I returned from my worldly travels which lasted over 30 yeas and I ran into Shape at the Tech Breakfast and our friendship was rekindled without missing a beat by one that has maintained relations with hundreds of persons throughout his life.

 During my time of need - my brother Lito (Margarito Pastrano Garza) was losing his bout to cancer which he finally lost valiantly - I asked Shape to host a Roast for him. Lito had refused to see his old acquaintances looking for no sympathy but he could not refuse my insistence on an event to celebrate his life.

 I knew no one better suited to host the affair. Shape combined a soft hand, soft heart and quick wit, to make the affair entertaining. Lito's friends - Shape being one of them as host - ignited the event contributing stories recalling their fun days. He prompted Lito's friends to do the same and they did so providing light stories and episodes and all of us laughed while Shape added his banter to embellish the stories.

The point of my story is; although your Dad has passed, he will be remembered for his generous gift of life, laughter, friendship and brotherhood. He will be remembered long after he has passed and you should be as proud as i am at having known him in life.

To The Pina Family,
My name is Roger Flores, Jr., and I'm terribly sadden and so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Pina. My father (Roger Flores, Sr.) and my mother (Julia) went to Tech with Mr. and Mrs. Pina. Both, my mom and dad always had such wonderful memories of Shape and Rosie, and spoke very highly of the two of them. 

I especially wanted to tell you that while my dad was going through cancer, Shape put together a breakfast for my dad, "Fella", to celebrate their friendship, along side other good friends from Tech. My father had never experienced such happiness during that tough time in his life and I was so touched by the love and true friendship that was shown that morning. My father cried tears of happiness that day and it was all due to Shape and friends. 

I spoke with Mr. & Mrs. Pina on two other occassions and was visited by them at my work when they dropped off a picture of my dad's highschool football picture. I have that picture hanging in my locker at the fire station. Mr. Pina showed me compassion and love after my dad passed and I will never forget him and Mrs. Pina for it. The thought of Shape and Fella, talking about ol'times, up in heaven, soothes the pain of sadness I have right now. Mr. Pina was a wonderful man and I feel very blessed and honored to have known him and Mrs. Pina. There are no words to truely discribe what a GENTLE man he was. I cling on to the hope that I will see him and my dad together again in heaven. 

Mrs. Pina, thank you for be-friending me and know that you have an "adopted son" in me. If you need anything, please let me know.

Mere words cannot describe how we felt upon reading about the loss of your Beloved Robert. Goyo was at a disbelieve, he mentioned he had gone by your home a couple of weeks ago to visit with Robert, but no one was at home. Among the many organizations he helped may we add Academia America in which Robert was instrumental in assisting in getting it off the ground. Our Prayers are with you and your entire family. Robt "Shape" Pina was good friend of mine and many other of us. He always addressed me as "Colonel" from our days in high school since I was Col. in ROTC and that was his way of teasing me. All kidding aside you always count on "Shape" to give you a smile. He will be sorely missed by many of us...especially those of from the "breakfast Clubs". est in Peace my friend. My regards an condolences to all his family who will miss him MOST.

Just wanted to say how much he will be dearly missed. Although, years have passed and we do not see each other as often. I consider us all a family through the community that started with Marriage Encounter. I'm blessed and so grateful my parents met these wonderful couples/families to include the Piña family. These families gave us so much by showing us the examples of what a servant of Christ truly is. To all our great mentors here on earth and up in heaven, I want to thank God for crossing our paths. This helped direct us to lead a life through faith and service.

Robert always knew how to make us laugh. As a child, I always enjoyed being around his presence. He was a cheerful giver. I know he is at peace with our Father in heaven. May his legacy of true works for God continue through everyone who knew him.

I was saddened to hear that Roberto had passed away. I will always remember when he would introduce himself he would say:
"My name is Roberto Pina, Pina como la fruta." 

Thanks to Roberto, now that I am married I now introduce myself as Eva Juarez como la ciudad.

I had the honor of meeting him and his wife when I was involved with the Segundo Encuentro Nacional.
Roberto had a great sense of humor and he was a very intelligent person, yet very down to earth.
 
He will be missed.
