On Friday, November 28, 2025, Robert Stakes took his last breath on earth and his first breath in Heaven surrounded by his family. Bob had a courageous battle with cancer, facing it with unwavering bravery. He was the fourth of five children born to Archie and Ludivine Stakes on January 3, 1940, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Bob's life was marked by determination, faith, and unconditional love that touched many. His early years led him to pursue higher education at the University of Texas and St. Mary's University. He began his professional journey with Dept. of Treasury as a Bank Examiner and quickly rose through the ranks. At just 30 years old, he became the youngest bank president in Texas—a testament to his intelligence and hard work.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was a man of faith and conviction. At the age of 42, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ, and it transformed his life. By the Grace of God he began a new journey. Early in his faith he used his gifts by teaching Sunday School. He freely and quietly gave financially from a generous heart to those less fortunate and was a man of prayer. He attended Grace Point Church Northeast.
A master woodworker with an extraordinary talent for craftsmanship, Bob could fix anything with his hands and had an eye for detail. Whether building furniture or fixing a computer issue, he was always capable.
Bob was also known for his steadfast support of the Dallas Cowboys—a loyal fan through every season. Always the eternal optimist. He enjoyed golf, shooting, camping, travel and was a great cook.
He is survived by four daughters: Laurie (Chris), Cindy (Tim), Dana (Tom), and Kathryn (Lee); Grandchildren: Shelby, Russell, Taylor, Kyle, Kevin, Kerri, Nathan, Clint, Ben, Cody, Drew, Hannah and Ella ; Great grandchildren: Lauren, Peytyn, Ethan, Analyse, Wyatt, Gentry, Kayeleigh, Mackenzie, Dylan, JT, Kimber, Cordell, Olivia, Sloane, Grant, Ezra, Boone, Max , Caleb and Danielle. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sue and daughter Connie.
Bob's legacy lives on through those who knew him—as a man of faith, resilience, craftsmanship, and love. May his memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to share in his life. A Memorial Service will be held on December 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Grace Point Church Northeast 2930 MacArthur View, San Antonio, TX.
