Robert Ladd Thompson, M.D., passed peacefully into the loving arms of His Lord and Savior early on the morning of July 21, 2024, after a protracted illness known as Multi System Atrophy. He was born on October 11, 1955, in Houston, Texas, where he grew and graduated from Memorial High School in 1973. He then attended the University of Texas and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1977. After a six month stint as the owner of Rob Bob’s Window Washing Services, he entered medical school at the University of Texas School of Medicine in Houston where he was awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society.
It was during his third year of medical school that he met, fell in love with, and married his wonderful wife, Sherry Lee Stone, on April 25, 1981. The couple moved to California in 1981 where Rob completed his Radiology residency at University of California at Irvine and then moved to Galveston where he completed a Fellowship in Interventional Radiology. They then moved to San Antonio where Rob practiced for 33 years as an extremely talented and well-respected member of the medical community. Because of health issues, Rob retired at the age of 61.
While his professional accomplishments were exceptional, Rob’s life outside of the hospital was best described as that of a free spirit--always looking for fun and adventure. He traveled many miles on his Harley Davidson with friends or his brother, always wanting to see what was lying ahead. He loved music and his home theater where he and his family enjoyed many hours of entertainment. His dry wit and great sense of humor was special to all who loved him.
Shortly before his death, his daughter-in-law, Kelsey, and son, Marshall, gave birth to Rob’s first grandchild, Benjamin Daniel Thompson. Rob was very proud to be a grandfather. Rob was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Russell Thompson and Vera McConville Thompson; his sister, Ann Holden Thompson; and his brother, Paul Eaton Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; and his children, Jessica (John), Wes, and Marshall (Kelsey); and grandchild, Benjamin; and his brother, Gregory Wilkins Thompson (Carole) and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, August 2, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
