

The Rev. Robert Akers Vaughan died Saturday, January 7, at the age of 92. He was ordained a Methodist minister in 1942. He retired as Commander in the Chaplain Corps, United States Navy, having served on active duty from 1942-1964.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After he retired from the military, he continued his ministry serving with the Southwest Texas Methodist Annual Conference of Churches in Utopia UMC; Associate Pastor St. Luke's UMC, Corpus Christi, Taft UMC; Trinity UMC, Corpus Christi, Pettus and Pawnee UMC's during various years from 1964-1979.
From 1926-1931 he was a member of the Boy Scout Troop at Temple Beth-El in San Antonio. In 1998 he and his wife moved to San Antonio where they resided at Patriot Heights Retirement Community. They attended St. Francis Episcopal Church.
He was born January 6, 1914 in Franklin Louisiana to Hazel Adair Akers of Jeanerette, LA and the Rev. Albert Floyd Vaughan of Homer, LA. He attended elementary school and junior high school in Washington, D C; high school in Manila, Philippine Islands; received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Centenary College of Louisiana; attended Law School at the University of Texas; and received his Master of Divinity degree from Duke University School of Religion.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Wilson and Kathleen Mitchell, his brother, Ellis Vaughan, and a son, Robert A. Vaughan, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ellen McKinney Vaughan; one son, Jeffrey Lord Vaughan and wife, Lisa; and step-daughters, Marilyn Storment and husband, the Rev. Douglas Storment, and Aleene Green and husband Lindsey Green; ten grandchildren: Melody McLean, Cody Vaughan, David Vaughan, Chad Flint, Jordan Flint, Chris Flint, Scott Storment, Holly Drain, Carrie Morin and Kirk Green and eight great grandchildren.
He leaves behind warm loving memories to family members and his many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who were a part of his life.
