

Rodney Charles Olivier "Rod", 73, died Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at his residence in San Antonio, following a 20 month fight of a rare bone cancer. He was born on August 18, 1942 in Franklin, LA to Donald Ambroise Olivier and Ruby Mary Charpiat, both deceased. Survivors include his wife of 45 years Mary Ann Gregory Olivier; brothers, Donald Andrew Olivier and wife Mavis of Kenner, LA, and Michael Gerard Olivier and wife Cathy of Melbourne, FL; brother-in-law David Gregory and wife Debbie of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law Kandy Gregory of Baytown, TX, numerous nieces and nephews.
Rod attended St John's Academy and Hanson Memorial High School, Franklin, LA, graduating valedictorian class of 1960 and was selected to attend Pelican Boys State. Active in scouting with his dad and brother Michael, Rod earned and was awarded the Eagle Scout Award, the Explorer Silver Award, the Ad Altare Dei award given for Roman Catholic scouts, and attended the 3rd Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge, PA. Graduating from Louisiana State University in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, he was also a member of Epsilon Zeta Tau, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
Upon graduation from LSU, Rod accepted a position with E. I. DuPont in Beaumont; then in 1968-1992 he began his career with Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Houston, TX. Moving to San Antonio in 1993, he was with HMG Engineering firm for a brief period, before joining MEP Engineering as a partner from January 1996 to his retirement in June 2010. Rod did not stop there, opening his electrical consulting business from his residence, working with electrical contractors in the area. He closed his business April 1, 2016 due to his health.
He was a member of the National Professional Engineers Society, the Texas Society for Professional Engineers, the National Fire Protection Agency and small business enterprise.
The Parish of the Holy Spirit Catholic community became a focus for the servant part of Rod's life, particularly Habitat for Humanity working yearly on a total of 16 sponsored houses by the church community. Rod also served as consultant and chair of the church building committee during the last few years.
Favorite past times were hunting in Junction, Fredericksburg, Uvalde, and the San Antonio area, both bird and deer with Mary Ann and their Labrador retriever, LADYHO.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund or Habitat for Humanity, San Antonio Texas.
