Rodolfo "Rudy" Colmenero, a faith-filled and passionate soul known for his unwavering optimism, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, in San Antonio, TX. Rudy was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him. He lived a rich and fulfilling life, marked by his dedication to his family, his career, and his many interests.
Rudy, was born to Rodolfo and Consuelo Colmenero on October 16, 1941 in El Paso, Texas. Rudy spent his childhood years growing up in El Paso and met the love of his life, Dolores Tovar Colmenero, while attending El Paso High School. He told everyone that the first time he met her that she would be the one he would marry. The couple married at St. Patrick Cathedral on February 9, 1963.
Rudy's early years in El Paso were the foundation of a life characterized by hard work and determination. He was a proud graduate of Texas Western College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree that would pave the way for his successful career as a retail executive. His professional life was marked by his innovative ideas and his ability to inspire those around him. Rudy's colleagues often spoke of his mentorship and the positive impact he had on their lives, both professionally and personally.
Family was the cornerstone of Rudy's life. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Dolores, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of companionship and mutual respect. Together, they raised four remarkable children—Rudy Colmenero, Bernadette Lucas, Therese Quintanilla, and Debra Moravits—who each embodied their father's enthusiasm for life and his kind-hearted spirit.
Rudy's interests and hobbies were as diverse as they were fulfilling. He was an avid golfer, finding joy on the greens under the vast Texas sky. His love for golf was only matched by his passion for spending time with his seven grandchildren and traveling, which saw him exploring new cultures, cuisines, and landscapes, creating lasting memories with his loved ones. These experiences only further enriched Rudy's appreciation for life's many blessings.
Those who knew Rudy would agree that his life was a reflection of the words that best described him: faith-filled, passionate, and optimistic. His faith was the guiding light in his life, providing him strength and comfort through all of life's trials and triumphs. His passion was evident in everything he did, from his career to his personal interests, and it was this passion that inspired those around him to pursue their own dreams with vigor.
Rudy's optimism was perhaps his most infectious trait. He had an uncanny ability to see the good in every situation and to encourage others to do the same. His positive outlook was a gift he shared generously, leaving a legacy of hope and joy that will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
As we bid farewell to Rudy, we do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time we shared with him. He was a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left this world better than he found it. Rudy's memory will forever be cherished by his adoring family, his many friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known this truly remarkable man. He has left an indelible mark on this earth, and while he will be profoundly missed, the essence of his spirit will endure in the lives he has influenced.
Amongst his many activities over the years, Rudy was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Building Campaign Chairman for St. Padre Pio Catholic Church and an honorary member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
