Ronald B. Sirmons, a retired Marine Major and long-time resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep just after midnight on February 3, 2026, at the age of 78. His final hours were spent in the caring environment of the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital's Community Living Center, surrounded by compassion and dignity.
Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, Ron was the cherished son of the late Benjamin H. and Mary Bruce (Puckett) Sirmons. He grew up surrounded by family and community, developing the strong values and sense of service that would guide him throughout his life. Ron was also the devoted husband of the late Nancy (Ball) Sirmons, with whom he shared many years of love, partnership, and cherished memories.
Ron was a committed Christian who attended Cornerstone Church of San Antonio. Though homebound for many years, he found great comfort in being able to watch Cornerstone’s services online. We are grateful for the assurance that Ron did not go out into the unknown but was welcomed home by his God and Savior, Jesus Christ. It brings us peace to know he is now reunited with his wife, brother, parents, grandparents, and other loved ones—free from pain and sickness, and experiencing lasting health and joy in the presence of Jesus.
Ron loved flying, both in the Marine Corps and privately. His passion for aviation was evident to all who knew him, and he often shared stories about his time in the cockpit. Whether soaring through the skies as a Marine or piloting a small plane on a quiet afternoon, flying brought him immense joy and a sense of freedom. Ron’s enthusiasm for flight inspired those around him, and his adventurous spirit will be fondly remembered. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family, who cherish his warmth, humor, and unwavering love of life.
Ron is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn Sirmons, his son, Ryan Sirmons, both of Florida, his sister, Deborah Sirmons Brittain, and his sister-in-law, Alice Sirmons.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy (Ball) Sirmons; his second wife, LaNita (Harms) Sirmons; and his stepmother, Jennie (Heath) Sirmons.
A visitation will be held at Sunset North Funeral Home, located at 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232, on February 24, 2026, starting at 11:00 am. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 12:00 pm.
