Rosemary Bowers Marmon passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on February 23, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on February 27, 1928, in El Paso, Texas, to Magabel Irby and Grover Tate Neely. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bettye Neely; first husband, Marion Clark Bowers; second husband, Harvey Victor Marmon Jr.; and son, David Clark Bowers. Rosemary is survived by two sons, Rob Bowers (Sherry) and Ric Bowers (Tina); four stepchildren, Harriet Helmle (Austin), Beth Munns (Larry), Mark Marmon (Shelley), and Mary Martha Fellows (Bob); 15 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Rosemary grew up in Fabens, Texas, attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and taught high school for one year in Van Horn, Texas. While completing postgraduate studies and training at Stanford Medical School in San Francisco, where she worked for two years as a dietician, she fortuitously managed to reconnect with Marion Bowers, whom she had first met at UT. After marrying Marion in 1954, she devoted her life to homemaking and taking care of her family and others. Together, Rosemary and Marion raised their three sons in Brownfield and Seminole, Texas, before retiring to San Antonio in 1989, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Following Marion’s death, Rosemary was blessed to find and marry her second husband, Harvey Marmon, in 2001, thus extending her family to include her beloved stepchildren and grandchildren.
Throughout her life and wherever she lived, Rosemary was active and engaged in her community, including as a devoted church member and as a strong advocate and supporter of causes near to her heart. Especially meaningful to her were the PEO Sisterhood (chapters in Hobbs, New Mexico, and San Antonio) supporting women’s education, and local charities in San Antonio supporting women in need and the homeless population. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in Rosemary’s memory be made to charitable organizations supporting such causes.
Rosemary enjoyed a long and richly blessed life to its fullest. Besides her family, wherever she lived, she loved and was loved by innumerable friends. Her family and friends will remember her as a genuinely caring person of extraordinary grace and generosity, who always put the needs of her loved ones first. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Rosemary will be permanently laid to rest near Harvey and beside Marion at the Mission Park Cemetery Dominion in San Antonio following a private service for immediate family.
