Rosemary E. Rogers passed from this world to glorious eternal life on April 21, 2015, at the age of 94. She was born in Pittsburg, KS to Fred A. and Gretchen Schiefelbein, and graduated from Pittsburg High School. She worked as a secretary for Nulton & Letton Law Firm, and Carl Pingry, Attorney at Law, in Pittsburg. She married E. Kenneth Rogers (d. 1977 - Col. US Army, Ret.) in 1943, and provided a loving and caring home as a career Army wife and mother of three as the family moved to various locations including Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, and Bangkok, Thailand, until making their permanent home in San Antonio, TX in 1969.
Prior to suffering a debilitating stroke in 1990 that confined her to Parklane West Health Care Center, Rosemary was recognized in the arts and crafts community for her diverse creativity and artistic expertise. She belonged to, and served as a board member of numerous organizations in San Antonio, including the Ft. Sam Houston Officers' Wives Club, Newcomers' Alumni, and the Local National Red Cross. She was active in fund raising for Easter Seals, and was a Senior Master Contract Bridge player. As a parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church and member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, Rosemary provided handmade ornaments for the Parish Christmas tree, table decorations, and calligraphy for many of their events, and often sold her crafts at the annual St. Pius X Fall Arts & Crafts Festival. She was an award winning quilter and quilt designer. She will be remembered for the love and support she provided to her family, her myriad talents, which she passed down to her children and grandchildren, and her enduring graciousness, unremitting dignity, and inestimable bravery and courage.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rosemary was predeceased by her eldest son, Kenneth S. Rogers, and brother, Fred R. Schiefelbein of Pittsburg, KS. She is survived by her son, Kris Rogers (Diane) of Round Rock, TX; daughter, Mary Beth Garay (George) of San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Rogers of Plano, TX; grandchildren, Scott D. Rogers of Plano, TX; Michelle Rogers of Houston, TX; Carrie Rogers (Jose) of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchildren, Mason Rogers and Rylan Rogers; sister-in-law, Daisy Louise Rogers Arce of Tucson, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews. Deepest thanks to the staff at Parklane West for their loving and patient care of Rosemary for over 20 years, Cima Hospice, and Dr. Ralph Wells (Ret.), who tirelessly cared for Rosemary and the Rogers family.
