

A native San Antonian, Rosie attended Fox Tech High School and graduated in 1948. After high school, Rosie married Raul Guerra in 1951. Together, they had two children before continuing her education. Rosie loved the Lord, her family, work, and her church.
Rosie received her associate’s degree from San Antonio College in 1980 and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas SA in 1982. She then continued her studies receiving a master’s degree in 1987.
Her career included work as a pre-kindergarten teacher of four-year olds at Mary Hull Elementary, then taught kindergarten at Leon Valley Elementary, before selecting to teach as a reading specialist of middle school students at Harris Middle School. Outside the school system, Rosie taught English as a Second Language Instructor at Lackland AFB in San Antonio.
Rosie’s passion for her church and ministry was observed in the La Trinidad United Methodist Church, from Sunday school teacher to Archival work, crafting, and the making of baby quilts. At age ninety-five, Rosie was acknowledged by her church for her servanthood, having sown 30 quilts (in one-month alone) for the preemies, a ministry that offers University Hospital pre-mature babies our church’s blessed prayerful welcome into this world.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, Raul, of seventy-one years; her parents Cruz and Dionicia Mendoza, her sisters Celia M. Cattarusa (Frank), Augustina M. Guerra (Eddie), brother Sam Mendoza (Lupe), and brothers-in-law William Rivera, Joe R. Carrillo, Joe Guerra, nephew, Michael Guerra, and sister-in-law, Connie Mendoza.
Rosie is survived by her two children: daughter, Norma Susan Guerra, grandson Robert Aaron Saenz (Christy), her son Raul Roger Guerra (Elizabeth) and granddaughter Lauren Paver (Bill). Rosie had ten great grandchildren that she loved dearly. Rosie is also survived by her siblings Cruz Mendoza, Jr., Lillie M. Carrillo, Yolanda M. Rivera, and brother-in-law Armando Guerra (Gloria), along with numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her extended family to carry on her legacy of love, God’s grace, and servant leadership.
A visitation will be held at La Trinidad United Methodist Church, 300 San Fernando St, San Antonio, Texas, on December 1, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at the same location at 10:30 a.m. Interment will take place afterward at San Fernando Cemetery #3.
