It is with profound sadness that the family of Ross Anthony Salazar Webb announces his passing. At the age of 17, Ross tragically drowned while fishing with family and friends on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in San Marcos, Texas.
Ross was born on October 25, 2007 in Carbondale, Illinois to Ross Webb and Eleida Webb. He lived in several places including Vienna IL, Austin TX, Canyon Lake TX, Venezuela and Chile before moving to San Antonio in 2017. Ross attended The Circle School and graduated in 2022 before enrolling at Travis Early College. This year, he began attending San Antonio Community College full-time, pursuing his dream of becoming an electrical engineer.
During his time at The Circle School, Ross excelled academically and built meaningful relationships within the community. He was a disciplined and motivated student, cherished by friends who became part of his family, including Wyatt, Aiden, Nathan, Phoenix, Acalain, and Moses. Ross participated in the Lego Robotics Club: The PeaceBots, and the Rainbow Room Traveling Theatricals. He participated in the Future City competition team, volunteering to present in 2022, helping earn the team a first place finish in regionals. Ross wished to be known as “the smart kid” and while he was definitely known as such, people remark on his kind heart, clever sense of humor, strong work ethic, and warm sociability. After graduating from the Circle School, Ross was a welcome campus volunteer. In his graduate reflection he said “ I will never forget all of the friends that I made at the Circle School, including the school’s staff…. I’ll never forget this school.”
In addition to finding a second family at The Circle School, Ross became a beloved member of the Bexar Grotto Caving Club and quickly connected with numerous cavers. He would volunteer his time during caving expeditions and shared his love of adventure with experts and novices alike. He particularly loved to lead wild cave tours at the Texas Hydrogeo Workshop.
Ross was a remarkable person. He will be remembered for his unmitigated joyfulness, his natural curiosity, and his wholehearted enthusiasm. He lived fully. In his seventeen years of life, he traveled extensively and visited many places including Belize, the Galapagos Islands, Fiji, New Zealand, and Samoa. He enjoyed exploring and experiencing the world. He earned his SCUBA certification and was an avid diver. He loved camping and felt at home sleeping under the stars. He could be found cooking homemade meals for his family, teaching himself to play the piano, or gaming with friends. He did not squander his life. He stepped into it with a big smile and his wonderful curly hair, awake and wholehearted.
He is survived by: his father, Ross Webb; his mother, Eleida Webb; and his grandmother, Mary Jane Reynolds Webb. They adore him. He is their world. Not only will he live on in their memories, he will live on in the bodies of the 100 recipients of his organs.
Being a caver and attending the Circle School helped shape Ross into a fine young man. In his memory we are establishing scholarship and award programs with both communities to aid students and get more kids involved in caving. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be sent to The Circle School or Texas Hydrogeo Workshop. More information about both programs may be found at these links.
A viewing will take place on November 20th. A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, December 8th at noon at the Circle School, which is located at 217 Pershing, San Antonio, Texas, 78209.
