Roy was born an only child to Mary Johnson and Edward Evans on May 17, 1940, in DeArmanville, Alabama. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before retiring honorably at the rank of Master Sergeant. His military service took him around the world including combat in the Vietnam conflict. Roy obtained a Bachelor’s degree from California State University and following his military service, he dedicated many years to federal civilian service. Later in life, he worked for Enterprise Car Rental as a Driver.
Roy had a love and enthusiasm for N-scale, toy tinplate trains and model railways. He frequented train shows around the country and was a serious collector. He found great pleasure spending time with his collection of trains and N-scale books at his in-home train room.
Roy was a devoted husband and is survived by his beloved wife, Opal R. Evans, with whom he shared a loving 50+ year marriage and unwavering partnership filled with cherished memories. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Douglas Dennis Ross, of Atlanta, GA, many beloved cousins, a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and good friend “CJ” Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
As we bid farewell to Roy, his family is comforted by their faith and takes solace in knowing that he rests in peace and his life’s journey was one well-traveled and beautifully lived. Roy will be remembered for his remarkable life, smile, laughter, and gentle spirit. A man of great faith and boundless kindness, he will be missed.
