Roy Pozos, of San Antonio, Texas, passed from this world into the everlasting arms of our Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 72 on the 4th of May, 2023. Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delia Niño, father LT Col. Gonzalo R. Pozos, USAF Ret., mother, Beatrice Medlin Pozos, and sister, Beatrice Pozos.
He is survived by step-daughter, Alize (Michael) Chapa, former wife Nancy Brundrett and their son, Ari Benjamin (Vannessa) Pozos, sister, Carol Ann Ellis, brothers, Ramon (Cynthia) Pozos, Jose Manuel (Mandy) Pozos, and 8 grandchildren who were the light of his life: Cody David Pozos, Dayton Conner Pozos, Ariana Jailynn Pozos, Aliyah Karis Pozos, Isaiah Alva, Giovanni Chapa, Xavier Chapa, Aracely Chapa.
In his youth, Roy traveled the world following his father’s deployments. Wherever Gonzalo was stationed by the Air Force, he always made sure that Roy traveled off-base to experience the rich culture and history of the area. In those years, Roy not only saw the world, but learned the importance of taking care of family. Through every move, Roy’s mother, Beatrice, kept the family together and taught Roy to look out for his brothers and sisters—something he never stopped doing throughout his life.
Roy also had a passion for music. He picked up his first guitar as a high school freshman in San Antonio. By the age of 16, Roy was performing Top 40 hits in Izmir, Turkey as a member of The Human Race Band with other children of service members.
Roy graduated in 1969 from Del Valle High School in Austin, TX and, thereafter, pursued his passion for music in the growing Austin music scene. He played alongside and stood shoulder to shoulder with some of the greatest rock, blues, jazz, and funk musicians of his day.
Roy committed himself to Christ in 1976 at World of Pentecost/Promiseland Church in Austin, Texas under Bishop Kenneth Phillips, where he served in worship alongside his first wife and sister in Christ, Nancy Brundrett. From that day forward, Roy was dedicated to musical ministry and serving the Lord. In his life, Roy helped countless souls find their way to the Lord through his God-given musical gifts.
Although a talented carpenter, musician and producer, Roy’s gifts in sound design and production were exceptional. As a sought-after sound engineer, he worked with many churches in San Antonio, serving most notably at Daystar Church/Family Praise Center/Place for Life, Victory Outreach San Antonio, and most recently as a valued member of Westover Hills Church (AG).
Roy gave freely in the spirit of Jesus Christ. He cared for people--his family, friends, and community. Roy will be dearly missed by all those blessed by his warm smile, bright eyes, and kind heart.
Visitation will start on Monday, May 22 at 10:00 am at Freedom Life Center located at 4402 Spear Head Dr, San Antonio, TX 78238. Service will follow at 11:00 am.
