

Rudy D. Castro, born on January 4, 1963, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and servant of God, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Rudy lived a life defined by faith, love, and unwavering dedication to others.
Rudy was the devoted husband of Christine Castro, the proud father of Adam Castro wife Mercedes Castro and the adoring grandfather to Julianna, Evelyn, and Calayah Castro—his three little lights who brought endless joy to his life. Whether he was taking them for ice cream at Andy’s, dancing with them in the living room, or spending quiet afternoons in their backyard, Rudy’s love for his granddaughters was pure and boundless.
Rudy is preceded in death by his parents Vicente and Gloria Castro and in-laws Ruben and RoseMary Valdez.
Rudy leaves behind three sisters Frances, Gloria (Arthur)and Mary Alice (Robert)and three brothers Jose, Vincente and Alex. Numerous nephews and nieces who loved and respected him.
Rudy worked at USAA for 39 years, where he met the love of his life. Rudy’s first assignment at USAA was pulling boxes in the Record Center. He served in various capacities throughout his career at USAA. In his final years he served in Information Security providing employee access. He retired in August of 2022 to help care for his father in-law Ruben. Ruben would often say where would I be without Rudy’s kindness.
A faithful and active member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Rudy lived out his calling through ministry and service. He founded Casting Nets 4 Christ, a powerful ministry that inspired and supported many men on their spiritual journey. Through heartfelt discussions, prayer, and brotherhood, Rudy helped guide many men closer to Christ. Every Saturday morning, he could be found leading Bible Study, where his insight, warmth, and passion for God’s Word lit the way for countless parishioners.
In recognition of his devotion and leadership, Rudy received the prestigious **Lumen Gentium** (Light of Christ to the People) Award—an honor bestowed upon those who exemplify the light of Christ in their communities. And that is exactly what Rudy did. He was a light in so many people’s lives: a source of comfort, encouragement, wisdom, and joy. His smile was infectious, his faith unshakeable, and his heart always open.
Rudy's life was a testament to love in action—a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service. He will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit lives on in every life he touched, every verse he shared, and every moment of love he gave freely.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary West, with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Dominic Catholic Church 5919 Ingram Rd, San Antonio, TX 78228. The burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian 11624 Culebra Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253.
Immediately following the burial, please join us at 1:00 PM in Piper Hall at St. Dominic Catholic Church for a reception and celebration of Rudy’s life and legacy.
In honoring Rudy, we carry forward his spirit of love, faith, and joyful service. May his memory be eternal, and may his light continue to shine through all who knew and loved him.
