Rudy was the lone surviving owner of the original San Antonio Meat Packing Company. During his 93 years in San Antonio, he was well known and recognized in all parts of the community. He was proud to be a San Antonian and always displayed a tremendous work ethic. Additionally, Rudy continually expressed his unconditional love to his wife, Gloria, his family, and friends. And oh, how he loved to dance!
A national civic leader once commented, “most politicians enter a room and make a point to say hi to everyone, but when Mr. Reyes enters a room, everyone makes a point to say hi to him.”
Rudy was a graduate of Lanier High School. He served in the US Army with the 25th Infantry Division in Osaka, Japan during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Alamo Post 2, Veterans of Foreign War Westside Post 8936, an honorary deputy sheriff, as appointed by former Bexar County Sheriff, Ralph Lopez, and a member of St. Paul's Knight of Columbus #7265.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Gloria L. Reyes. Rudy is survived by his daughters, Cecilia R. Garcia and her husband Robert, and Barbara J. Castaneda and her husband Bobby; son, Brandon Reyes and his wife Virginia; grandchildren, Celeste Garcia, Bobby and Vanessa Castaneda, Brian and Becky Castaneda, Amanda and Robert Gutierrez; and great-grandchildren, Grayson, Brooklyn, Rudy, Ryan, Royce, Renay, Robby, Serena, Sierra, Carly Jo, Kyle and Brian. The Reyes, Garcia, and Castaneda families wish to express our gratitude to everyone for sending flowers, gifts, text messages, phone calls and prayers during these difficult days. Most importantly, your thoughts pay homage to our dad, Rudy Reyes.
The family would like to give a special thanks for the care given at Parkway Assisted Living; especially to Jose and Sylvia Mendoza and all their staff. Also, to the Generous Hospice Care nurses, Carolyn and Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
