

Rutherford Platt Hayes, great grandson of the 19th President of the United States Rutherford Birchard Hayes died August 18, 2004 in San Antonio Texas at the age of 75. 'Rud' Hayes died from complication from Parkinson and Lewy body disease.
Rud served in the Army and rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant with the military police while stationed in Germany for two years in the mid fifties.
Mr. Hayes dedicated himself to his family working several jobs with Occidental Petroleum starting out in the Detroit area and then taking a transfer to New Jersey. Once in New Jersey he worked for several banks in the area in their municipal bond department.
It was in New Jersey that he became interested in restoring old homes and with the help of his family he restored a 200 year old Victorian Home in Summit NJ. In his entire business career Rud never missed a day's work. He coached little league in Birmingham, Michigan and was a member of the United States Power Squadron.
After retirement Rud moved down to Tiki Island Texas where he met his wife Verna Ann Kemp. Rud is survived by his wife Verna, his two sons Scott and Ruddy and four grandchildren.
