

Sabas R. Martinez Jr., a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, dedicated veteran, and loyal friend, entered into eternal rest on July 4, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on January 2, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, to Sabas M. Martinez Sr. and Juliana R. Martinez, Sabas lived a life filled with love, laughter, purpose, and unwavering devotion to family and country.
Sabas proudly served in the United States Army and retired with honor. His service to his country was a source of deep pride, and the values he upheld during his military career—honor, integrity, and dedication—were evident in every aspect of his life.
After his time in the service, Sabas achieved a great accomplishment by earning his bachelor’s degree in science from Wayland Baptist University. He then began his career as an environmentalist for the Edgewood Independent School District, where he later became the Director of Maintenance and Custodial Support Staff. Later in life, he continued his work as an environmentalist and eventually retired from the State of North Carolina.
He was a man of many passions. Sabas had a deep love for music and was often found dancing around the house with his beloved wife, strumming his guitar or playing his trumpet with joy. He found peace in the outdoors, especially while fishing or hunting, and took immense pleasure in the quiet and patience those activities brought him. A classic car enthusiast, Sabas dreamed of restoring his Corvette—a goal he spoke of often and fondly. He also enjoyed games with family, whether it was cards or dominoes, and cherished the memories made during those moments. Above all, what Sabas loved most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He found great joy in sharing stories, offering guidance, and passing down the knowledge he had gathered through a lifetime of rich experience.
Sabas now reunites in heaven with his paternal grandparents, Sabas R. Martinez and Carlota Mojica; his maternal grandparents, Francisco Rivas and Manuela Rivas; and his loving parents, Sabas M. Martinez Sr. and Juliana R. Martinez.
Sabas memory will forever live on in the heart of his beloved wife, Doris Marie Martinez, who remained his constant companion and unwavering support through every chapter of life. His daughter, Claudia Helena Hinojosa, and her husband Paul Hinojosa; sons; Sabas H. Martinez III, and his wife Karlee E. Martinez; and, Javier H. Martinez. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Martinez and his wife Jaine Martinez, along with his sister, Sylvia Siegret, who will continue to hold his memory close.
Sabas was a proud and devoted grandfather to Jonathan Michael Hinojosa, Gabriel Adam Hinojosa, Sabas Martinez IV, Lilith Martinez, and Brandon Ornelas. Each of them brought immense pride and happiness to his life, and his love for them knew no bounds.
Those who knew Sabas will remember his strength, his humor, his storytelling, and his deep love for his family. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the stories he told. He was a man of principle, heart, and service—an irreplaceable presence whose spirit will live on forever.
A Visitation for Sabas will be held Sunday, July 20, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237 with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. A Processional will depart from the funeral home at 11:30 AM for a Mass of the Resurrection on Monday, July 21, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria, San Antonio, TX 78228, with Burial to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209 at 1:45 PM.
