Sally Ann Halff passed away at the age of 93 at her home on November 16, 2024. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she got to Texas as quickly as she could. She attended Grinnell College in Iowa and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Sociology. At UT, she fell in love with Alex Halff. They married soon after graduation on his holiday as an enlisted officer in the Navy. During his time at sea, she stayed with his parents, Anyce and Harry Halff, in San Antonio, forming bonds of friendship that she cherished throughout her life. She and Alex were a wonderful love story who built a life centered on their three boys, extended family and community.
Sally was an avid reader and joined Our Reading Club as the youngest member, continuing throughout her life until she became the oldest member. She was an active volunteer for many organizations in San Antonio including the Battle of Flowers Band Festival committee, Alamo Heights-Terrell Hills Garden Club, The Ecumenical Center and Planned Parenthood of South Texas. She was a fan of the San Antonio Spurs, the San Antonio Symphony, and she tried to make every concert by Agarita. Family was her constant joy and she loved taking trips to interesting places with her children and grandchildren, building bonds and relationships and making lifelong memories for all of them.
A friend of hers put it so well; “Sally was a woman full of grace, with a heart of gold, a wonderful sense of humor, and unlimited capacity to enjoy life and the people close to her.”
Sally is preceded in death by her husband, Alex H. Halff and her great granddaughter Sophie Ann Halff. She is survived by sons Glenn (Mindi Alterman), Harry (Eleanor) and Jim (Danna); grandchildren Allison (Greg), Jesse (Hannah), Marghi, Travis (Lauren Wilks), Cody (Valerie), Josh and Daniel Halff; great grandchildren Desi, Naomi, Blair and Wesley.
The family would like to express special thanks to Sandy Forrester, Miriam Tijerina, Solange Tijerina and Jeanette Smith and Trinity Hospice Care for their loving care.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 25 at 2:00 pm in the Wulfe Sanctuary at Temple Beth-El , 211 Belknap Place. You may watch the livestreaming through this link.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to Planned Parenthood South Texas or a charity of your choice.
