"Vanitas Vanitatis" - Everything Is Vanity
Sam Cohen, Holocaust Survivor, age 91 passed at home on September 7, 2014.
He was born November 22, 1922, in Salonika, Greece. When the Germans occupied Greece, he was put into a hard labor camp in Northern Greece. When the opportunity arose, he escaped with his best friend and fought in the underground until the fall of the German empire. He then decided that he wanted to come to America.
On his travels, he met his wife in Paris and later wrote for her to join him. They were married in Rhode Island on March 16, 1955; he had made San Antonio his home.
With the help of kind people, he started his business State Leather and Shoe Company, with his friend and partner, William Yahiel. From there he started his family and had a successful business. Though he had many hardships in his life, he was always one to help others in time of need. He dedicated his free time to educating the youth of the atrocities of the Holocaust.
Survived by his loving wife, Micheline, Beloved children Bernard, Philip and Jerome and wife Tammy, Grandchildren Samantha, Brett, Josh, Ryan, Ethan, Noble, Madison & Emma and daughter in laws, Kimberly Robichaud, Stephanie Nagy and Fran Kauffman.
