 I knew Sam from Boy Scouts Troop 515. 
 Sam was one the two  assistant scoutmaster‘s of the troop when it was formed in 1976.  At that time I receive my  Eagle scout rank with his leadership in 1979. I went out on a lot of outings  with  Sam and saw him in later years at a lot of  adult meetings always with a cheerful smile on his face.  He will be missed .

"Mr. Sam" as we all knew him at St. Paul's CDS was our original " Bob the builder", " Mr.Rogers",  and " Mr. Science Guy" all rolled up into one fantastic  human being. Once I informed him of my interest in various critters around the area,  he eagerly  would accommodate  with assorted creatures around "the neighborhood" for my class to see and learn about. These impromptu  learning experiences were always an enjoyable part of having our "Mr. Sam" as a member of our St. Paul's CDS team. 
Clareen and family,  may God's loving arms surround you and provide you comfort and love through this . He was a very special man and will be missed tremendously by his family and the community.

Mr. Sam was a wonderful man! He and his lovely wife Clareen were such a huge part of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Christian Day School for many years. Sam was always available to help with the school and the staff and children adored him! They were both dearly missed when they transferred to Abiding Presence. You are all in our thoughts and prayers Clareen and family. Sam was one in million!

Oh, I'm so sad to just now be getting the news about Mr. Hencey's passing ... He and Mr. Stocker, along with my Dad, were all my first Scoutmasters back in the 1980s with Troop 515.  He taught me my Totin' Chip Badge and threatened to take it away one quarter tear at a time if I was unsafe with knives or axes ... And I will never forget those camp outs at his place where there was an old cemetery that used to spook me ... Later, at Churchill, he was one of the Band chaperone parents, and I knew he knew my Dad and so I better be on my  good behavior ... Then there was that time my sophomore year when he and the band director came knocking on our hotel door in Daytona Beach ... Uh oh, this is going to be bad; we are so busted!  But he gave me grace and I don't think ever mentioned anything to my parents ... A very good man who will be missed ... 

“Mr. Sam” was a wonderful daily part of our world at St. Paul Christian Day School for many years! He would catch lizards to show to the children and we would have impromptu animal lessons! We all loved him and will never forget what a wonderful man he was. My prayers go out to you, Clareen, and the family. God bless y’all.

Mr Hencey was one of the greatest Scouts that I had the pleasure knowing.  My son Tyler looked to him as one of  his favorite mentors.   So sorry for the families loss as there will be a big hole left in the world.  

My condolences to the Hencey Family. So sorry for your loss. I greatly admired him and my husband and I were always grateful for being able to volunteer in Scouting alongside him and learn from him how to be better scouters for all the scouts in our community and families.
So many things to say and admire about him: his love and dedication to his family, his church and scouting - Pack 75, Troop 360, Eagle/Diamondback District, Cub Scout Day Camp (director and annual volunteer) and to his community which included being a cross walk guard at Encino Park  Elementary. Loved his commitment, his humor and the wisdom/life experience he was willing to share with us. RIP.

Mr. Hencey was a wonderful, dedicated man to the Boy Scouts and Troop 360.   Mark & I are so grateful for his part in helping both our sons, Dalton & Logan, achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.  I took this picture of Mr. Hencey on Aug. 30, 2016, at a scout meeting.  I was struck by how committed this man was to giving back to his community and wanted to be sure our sons had a picture of this great role model. You will be dearly missed Mr. Hencey.

This man meant the world ro me.  I see him all over the church.  I will miss him and will keep his family in my heart.

We are saddened to hear of Sam's passing.  He was such an important part of our boy scout family.  He was very important to Mark Jr. and Sr. and their scouting lives as well as so many other scouters.  Our deepest condolences to you.

He is survived by his wife, Clareen; his sister Barbara Dickmann and husband Mike; his brother Charles; his children Brian Hencey and partner Chuck Ross, Lisa Roberts, Amy Guajardo and husband Mark; and his grandchildren Garrett Roberts, Noah, Olivia and Mia Geurkink.
