Sara Gene Woodruff

Sara Gene Norwood Woodruff, 60, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in San Antonio on January 28, 2016. Sara was born in Rusk, Texas to J.H. and Finniegene Norman Norwood on April 2, 1955. She attended Rusk schools and was a resident of Rusk for most of her life, having moved to San Antonio in 2010. She worked as a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant at Rusk State Hospital for many years.

Sara enjoyed keeping up with her family and her many friends, especially her classmates from the Rusk High School Class of 1973. She always enjoyed good movies and loved reading and studying the Bible. Sara had her share of struggles over the years but she was resilient and strong in her faith and was an inspiration and support for many. She love to communicate regularly with people on Facebook and by telephone and she loved her children, grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Ty Foster Mabry. Left to cherish her memory are her husband David of San Antonio, her daughter Casey Mabry and son-in-law Shad of Rusk, her son Robby Woodruff of San Antonio, her son John Woodruff and daughter-in-law Amanda of Rusk, her daughter Brook Woodruff of San Antonio, her sister Ann Counts and brother-in-law Julian of Mt. Pleasant, her brother Jay Norwood and brother-in-law Sam Lee of San Antonio, her grandchildren Aleigha Mabry Ball, Kenzie Woodruff, Hallee Woodruff, Mason Roberts, Cale Woodruff, Shanna Kee, Jada Kee, Lacie Royal, Jacob Woodruff, Joel Woodruff, Gavin Griffith, Braylon Woodard, and Avery Woodard and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Graveside services for Sara will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Rusk, Texas with Robby Arrington officiating. A Celebration of Sara's life will follow from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rusk Church of Christ Annex in Rusk.
