Sarah H. Jackson

Sarah Jackson, born June 18, 1930, passed away December 20, 2016 in Des Moines, Iowa at age 86. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She married her longtime husband and partner in life, Donald E. Jackson on June 29, 1951. She managed 11 moves around the country and world when her husband was transferred in his job. She was a Registered Nurse and worked in numerous hospitals and emergency rooms around the country for over 45 years. Sarah still found time for one of her true passions in life-sports. An avid tennis and competitive badminton player, she also played softball, volleyball, basketball and dabbled in track. She was still competing in the Senior Olympics at 83 years old. Her gold and silver medal count was numerous. Finally, she was a member of the Texas Senior Games Hall of Fame 2009.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Donald. She is survived by her sons, Donald, Franklin (wife Maloos), Terry (wife Cindy) and daughters, Susan Merkle (husband Rick), Martha Smith (husband Stuart), and Deborah Davis (husband David). She is also survived by grandchildren, Emily, Jennifer, Erin, Cameron, Sarah, Marci, Franklin, Samuel, Abisha, Ellie Kay, Holly, Scarlett, Jackson, Isabella, Camille, Lola, Delia, and great grandchildren Jameson, Chase, Spencer, Jonah, Jeffrey, Robert and Roy.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
