

She was born December 13, 1924, in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, to the late Oscar von Kochtitzky and Catherine Roth Hubbard Merritt.
Sarah attended Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and the University of Pennsylvania, School of Art, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and stayed active in the alumni organization.
She played piano and loved classical music. She shared her creative and artistic gifts of drawing, mosaics, painting, sewing and weaving with her family and many groups in San Antonio.
Sarah was a Girl Scout troop leader, introducing the girls to many art forms and she continued her parent's love of weaving at the Southwest Craft Center and was involved in the Hand Weavers Guild of San Antonio.
A docent at the Institute of Texan Cultures, she demonstrated spinning to groups for many years.
Sarah was a secretary at Trinity Episcopal Church and did the artwork for their bulletins and crche displays at Christmas. Her dedication to the church didn't stop there, as she also sewed baby blankets and bonnets, enjoyed Bible Study and the dinner group at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Sarah enjoyed cooking and traveling to wonderful places with her husband Linn, whom she married October 3, 1948.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Louise Merritt Whitlock.
Sarah is lovingly survived by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Carl Linnaeus Maurer; children, Linnaeus Orme Chuck Maurer and wife, Denise, Sarah Elizabeth Maurer Wilkinson and husband, Michael and Emily Merritt Maurer Schroeter and husband, Jeffrey; grandchildren, Catherine Louise, Molly Jane and Sarah Elizabeth Wilkinson; brothers, Robert Edward and Oscar von Kochtitzky Merritt, Jr.
