

Senior Master Sergeant Severiano Vargas Jr. (Nano), 89, of San Antonio, TX peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus on December 12, 2025 in San Antonio, TX. He was a man filled with kindness, humility and strength. Nano’s life was a testament to the power of God, love and family and he displayed an unwavering commitment to family and country.
He was born in Ottine (Praire Lee) TX. to Carmen (Valdez) and Severiano Sr. on January 16, 1936 and baptized at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Martindale, TX. Nano lived most of his young years in Corpus Christi, TX where he made his First Communion at Holy Family Catholic Church in 1946 followed by graduation from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX. After enlisting in the Air Force, he served throughout the world. His greatest joy was marrying the love of his life, Wilma Jane Gutierrez on November 25, 1961 at the Lindsey Chapel in Wiesbaden Germany. He dedicated his career to the US Air Force until retirement as a Senior Major Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded for Meritorious Service with the following: Air Force Commendation Medal with three bronze oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal with a Silver and Two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters.
Severiano is preceded in death by his wife Wilma (1997), his parents, Carmen and Severiano Sr, his six brothers; Magdaleno, Domingo, Manuel, Jose, Enrique and Jesus and his 3 sisters; Mary V. Levrier, Feliz V. Puente and Dora V. Gallagher.
Severiano is survived by his two sisters: Lupe V. Romero and Carmen V. Castro of Garden Grove, CA. along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and long-time friend Cynthia Laprioree.
Nano will undoubtedly live on in the lives he touched. As we honor his memory, we're reminded of his anchored spirit and the humble lessons he imparted: to give God your best, to enjoy each moment and to treat each other with respect.
Family and friends are invited to gather and share their memories on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, located at 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. Beginning with a Rosary from 10:30 am, followed by a chapel service from 11:00am then a light lunch after the chapel service all at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
The committal service will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, at 2:15 pm.
The family of Nano wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the medical team and chaplains at the ICU at Brooke Army Medical Center for their incredible service and dedication to patient care. To God Be The Glory!
