

A light went out in the lives of family and friends with the death of Seymour Palans on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Born in St. Louis to Ida and Julius Palans, Seymour attended University City High School and then the University of Missouri, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu. It was at Mizzou where he would meet the love of his life, Judy Pearlstone. After graduating from Missouri, Seymour was commissioned in the Air Force as a 2nd Lt. While stationed in Japan, Judy and Seymour’s first son David was born. A second son, Steve would be born two years later.
Upon returning to the States, Judy and Seymour settled in San Antonio, where Seymour began a long and successful career in residential real estate, starting as a builder of small homes. Along with partners who would become life-long friends, he was a pioneer in developing apartment projects on the south side of San Antonio. A hands-on developer, Seymour could often be found working with the carpenters, and would on occasion be found atop a back-hoe or excavator.
Throughout his life Seymour made it a point to give back, and was involved with many community organizations including Rotary, United Way, Golden Manor, the Jewish Federation, and Meals on Wheels. He was also a former director of Allied American Bank.
Known for his generosity, energy and love for tennis, gin rummy and lunch bunch, his first love was being the full-time director of Camp Seymour, doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Julius Palans; his son, Steven; and his brother-in- law, Larry Pearlstone. He is survived by his wife, Judy Pearlstone Palans; his brother, Herb (Linda) Palans; son, David (Karen) Palans; daughter-in-law, Melany Palans; grandchildren, Brian (Jessica), Leslie, Jacob and Garrett Palans; great grandchildren, Eliza and Caleb Palans and nieces and nephews, Kevin Palans, Shelly (Larry) Mrazek and their children; Carly (Liv) Palans and Zach Palans.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish Federation of San Antonio, Temple Beth-El or charity of your choice.
Interment will be private to be followed by a Memorial Service on Sunday, February 21 at 6:30 pm, which may be accessed at the following link:
