Shane Matthew Colyer was born May 13, 1986 in San Antonio, Texas and died December 11, 2020. As a child, he was funny and loving, with a mischievous streak that seemed to have him perpetually in some sort of trouble. Through pee wee football, cowboy stage complete with horse, saxophone, soccer, high school drumline, and the youth group and praise band at NHUMC, he was always active and involved and living life to the fullest.
Shane knew when he joined the army he would face challenges later in life from his gene-positive diagnosis of Huntington’s Disease. He applied and was accepted to Airborne Training, and later completed Sniper school. He served two tours in Iraq, motivated to protect the men with whom he served and the freedom and safety of those he loved back home.
After the army, Shane tried his hand at several careers before he found his passion of personal training. He pursued extra education and certifications, and was proudest of the strength and conditioning work he did with seniors and handicapped young people.
Shane loved playing semi-professional football, and eventually played professional arena football for the San Antonio Knights in the IAFL, where his training experience benefitted the entire team. He loved rock climbing, motorcycle riding, and dancing. He loved being outside and listening to music with friends. He loved playing cards and table games with his family and loved ones. Shane had two biological sons he would have loved to spend more time with, and cherished his time with his partner and her two sons.
Shane was funny, witty, loyal, generous to a fault, beloved, and plowed into everything he did full bore, zero or a hundred. Shane is sorely missed and survived by his grandmother, mother, partner, two siblings and their spouses, two sons, aunts and uncles, five cousins, two nieces and a nephew.
We will miss you, Shane.
