Born on October 23rd, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas she was the 2nd eldest of 5 children to John Olwyn Dix, Sr. and Patricia Guenther Dix. Her elementary and high school education was in the Incarnate Word school system and then she completed her undergraduate college degree in Sociology at Trinity University. Soon after graduating, while observing her youngest brother benefiting from his pre-school education in Montessori, she knew what her career path was to be. She was accepted into the first school of Montessori “Casa dei Bambini” (Children’s House) that was founded by Maria Montessori near Rome, Italy. The Montessori teaching method is focused on children learning by doing, are treated with respect, and are encouraged to develop into independent thinkers. She was both an educator and headmaster of the Children’s House of Montessori school in San Antonio, Texas.
Sharon had love and affection for all her family members but was very close to her grandfather, Charles F. Guenther, Jr. who helped her in many ways throughout her life. She met the love of her life while attending Trinity University, OZ White. They were married in September of 1990. They did not have any children, but of course Sharon saw all her children at her school, the Children's House of Montessori, as a part of her family. They were both very active in charitable work and causes for the poor in Mexico and Guatemala. OZ went on many mission trips with his good friend Father Bill Davis. Sharon had a deep connection with all animals and was very active with the rescue of stray and abandoned pets and wildlife animals in the San Antonio and surrounding areas. She took care of many pets over her lifetime but one of her most prized pet companions was her horse Ivanhoe who was 17 hands tall and lived 30 years. He won many awards in the highly disciplined equestrian sport of Dressage. She is survived by her cat Mr. Precious and her dog CiCi.
Sharon leaves behind a legacy of all her students whom she taught over the many years at the Children's House of Montessori in San Antonio, TX. She is remembered not only for her professional achievements in Montessori education but for her kindness for others and animals, making this world a better place.
